Teddy Ezra was born in Israel in 1981. His first teacher Itzhak Katzap is the reason for his falling in love with the clarinet. He studied for a diploma in teaching and conducting at the IDF Orchestra College (1999-2001). He completed his Bachelor’s degree in teaching and performance in Chen Halevi’s clarinet class at the Trossingen Music Academy (2003-2006). He studied for a Master’s degree in modern instruments with Chen Halevi in Trossingen (2006-2007), and is currently completing a Master’s Degree in period instruments in Trossingen, in Ernst Schlader’s class.

 

Teddy received the America-Israel Cultural Foundation scholarships in (2001-2003), as well as scholarships from the Petach Tikva Conservatory (1998-2005), DAAD scholarships (2005-2006) and a full scholarship from the Siena Music Academy to support participation in master classes with Antony Pay. He won 1st prize in the DAAD competition for all instruments (2006).

 

Teddy served as principal clarinettist and bass-clarinet with the Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva under Yaron Traub (2002-2003); Ensemble Polyphonie T under Manfred Schreier (2003-2006); the Trossingen Academy Orchestra (2003-2007); project by the Israel Contemporary Players under Zsolt Nagi (2005); and as an intern with Zeitoper (specialising in contemporary opera) and the Junge Oper der Staatsoper Stuttgart, conducted by Wolfgang Heinz, Mike Svoboda and Cristine Sibenik (2008). He also appeared as principal clarinettist and basset-horn player in joint project of the Bayrische Theaterakademie and the period-instrument ensemble Hofkapelle München, conducted by Christoph Hammer. He appeared also with the L'arpa festante, Barockorchester München conducted by Frank Schefller. He is a member of Ensemble "Crossart" conducted by Caterina Centofante (specialising in contemporary music).  

 

Teddy also appeared as a soloist with the Südwestdeutschen Philharmonie Konstanz and the Tuttlinger Kammerorchester, and made several recordings for the Israeli Radio’s Voice of Music channel, for Israeli National Television and for the French channel ARTE.

 

Teddy participated in master classes with the clarinetists Karl Heinz Steffens, Antony Pay, Charles Neidich, Guy Deplus, Philip Cooper, Eli Even and Hakan Rosengran, and the pianist  Bart van Oort.
