Teddy Ezra
CLARINET &
PERIOD CLARINETS
"The velvety, dark, melancholic human voice that Teddy Ezra draws from his basset horn finds exquisite resonance in the requiem chant."
DER BUND.
Teddy Ezra was born in Beer Sheva, Israel. His musical journey began under the tutelage of Itzhak Katzap and Prof. Chen Halevi, later advancing under Prof. Dr. Ernst Schlader at the Hochschule für Musik Trossingen. This comprehensive education endowed him with a rich and versatile expertise in both modern and historical instruments.
Biography
„The sound palette in the performance of Mozart's clarinet concerto is astonishing, with the solo instrument contributing significantly. Teddy Ezra, the Israeli soloist, plays a replica basset clarinet (basset horn) that evokes a historical aura, allowing for an extended lower register. Ezra performs the piece effortlessly, with complete relaxation and captivating simplicity. This is particularly evident in the middle movement, which transforms into a more refined, enchanting interpretation of Mozart“.
BERNER ZEITUNG
Since 2019, I have been dedicated to teaching clarinet with a specialized focus on historical performance practice and chamber music at the State University of Music in Trossingen. My mission is to guide students through their academic journey to successful graduation across all degree programs.
Teaching Philosophy
My approach emphasizes technical prowess, refined sound production, healthy playing techniques (Alexander Technique), and a profound engagement with musical literature. Key areas of instruction include chamber music, orchestral studies, historical performance, and pedagogical methods.
Class recitals and audition training are fundamental, fostering collaboration and collective artistry through meticulous discussion and analysis of repertoire.
Enhancing my teaching are projects such as mental training and the restoration of historical instruments. I also offer intensive courses and masterclasses on an international scale. Initiatives like the "Waldshut Clarinet Days" provide young musicians with transformative experiences and valuable professional networks.
