Teddy Ezra was born in Beer Sheva, Israel. His musical journey began under the tutelage of Itzhak Katzap and Prof. Chen Halevi, later advancing under Prof. Dr. Ernst Schlader at the Hochschule für Musik Trossingen. This comprehensive education endowed him with a rich and versatile expertise in both modern and historical instruments.

 

A distinguished artist, Teddy has garnered numerous accolades and scholarships, including honors from the "America-Israel Cultural Foundation," the "Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom," the Music Academy Siena (Italy), and the State University of Music Trossingen. He triumphed in the German Academic Exchange Service (D.A.A.D.) competition, securing first prize across all instruments, and received a prestigious award from the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation for his innovative work, "Playing New Music with Historical Instruments."

 

Teddy's early acclaim came in 2002 when he was appointed principal clarinetist of the Israel Symphony Orchestra of Beer Sheva. His career flourished as a member of the Junge Oper at the Stuttgart State Theater and the Staatsoper Stuttgart “Zeitoper.” His passion for early music was evident through his collaborations with the Bavarian Theater Academy – Hofkapelle München, the “L’arpe festante” Baroque Orchestra Munich, the Baroque Orchestra “La Fontane,” the Hannoversche Hofkapelle, the “la festa musicale” Baroque Orchestra, the Baroque Orchestra Frankfurt am Main, Paul McCreesh and “Gabrieli Roar” London, “Concerto Ispirato” Hannover, “Aris & Aulis” Berlin, the Orchestra “La Banda,” the KBO (Karlsruhe Baroque Orchestra), and “Concerto Köln.”

He was appointed principal clarinetist of the Israel Symphony Orchestra of Beer Sheva. His career flourished as a member of the Junge Oper at the Stuttgart State Theater and the Staatsoper Stuttgart “Zeitoper.”

In the realm of chamber music, Teddy has performed with prestigious ensembles such as the “21st Century Ensemble,” the German-Israeli “Else Ensemble,” the Ensemble “Musica Viva,” the Phillidor Ensemble, the Ensemble Tutzfrequenz, and the Ensemble Meredith Monk from New York. He is a regular soloist with the Southwest German Philharmonic Orchestra of Constance, the Collegium Musicum Riga, the Berner Consort, the Musica Viva Stuttgart, and the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Wernigerode.

ENSEMBLES

Teddy's artistry is well-documented in recordings for Naxos, Israel Radio's classical channel Kol Hamusica – “The Voice of Music,” Südwest Rundfunk Stuttgart (SWR), German cultural radio, Czech National Radio, Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), Israeli National Television, and the French TV channel ARTE.

Since 2019, Teddy has been a distinguished lecturer in the Department of Early Music at the State University of Music Trossingen, where he mentors clarinet students with a focus on historical performance practice and chamber music. In 2021, he was appointed as the trusted lecturer for the “Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom” at the State University of Music Trossingen.

He is a sought-after guest at numerous prestigious music festivals, including the Riva del Garda Music Festival (Italy), Black Forest Music Festival, SinusTon-Festival for New Music in Magdeburg, Innsbruck Festival of Early Music (Austria), Riga Early Music Festival (Latvia), Schwetzingen Festival, and Donaueschingen Music Days.

 

Teddy has led international masterclasses at esteemed institutions such as Neresheim Monastery, Ochsenhausen Monastery, Michaelstein Monastery, the Hochschule für Musik Trossingen, the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo, the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Alicante, the Conservatorio di Musica Licinio Refice – Frosinone, the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga, the Jerusalem Academy for Music Mishkanot Shaananim, in Rio de Janeiro, and Nanchang University in China.
